Springtime is always a busy time, with graduation portraits, prom, the Plainsmen Portrait, and getting ready for seniors. In the 118 years Ludwig’s has operated, our clients all have the same thing in common – they love being outside. It’s not often we do studio portraits, because people generally are happiest outside, whether its at the Laramie Greenbelt, or Vedauwoo.
Shad is no different. He told me he loved being outside, and likes to spend his free time hiking. With graduation around the corner, he wanted to celebrate the completion of his Masters in Chemical Engineering with a portrait session.
Happy Jack
After campus, we loaded up and headed to Happy Jack, another favorite of mine. Shad wasn’t picky about the location, so long as it was outdoors. His outfit choices were perfect with the Wyoming backdrop! Shad is extremely friendly, kind-hearted, and photogenic. His photos radiate his genuine personality. He is a true cowboy at heart!
Classic and Modern
The University of Wyoming campus is one of my favorite spots for portraits. The old stone buildings look classy and beautiful, and its an easy spot just a few minutes from the studio. Shad wanted some in front of the old Engineering building, one of my favorites. He wanted some classic, and some modern, so after, we went to the new Engineering Education and Resource Building to get that modern, high-tech look. The day could not have been more perfect. It was sunny and warm, with no wind or a cloud in sight. It can be difficult sometimes to plan a day that perfect in Laramie in April.
The Hug
It always means the world to me to see the happiness in a mother’s eyes when she sees her son’s portraits for the first time. I call it the “hug”. When you’ve had a long day at work, or something unfortunate has happened in your life, coming home to the “hug” on your wall is priceless. Shad’s mom came from Rock Springs for the viewing of his portraits, and was so happy with what we did. Now even long after graduation, she will have Shad forever immortalized on her wall to look to when times are tough.
